Reports: Brush Fire at Sleeping Giant State Park

Reports are coming in that firefighters from Hamden and area towns are responding to the "chin" of the state park.

Cheshire firefighters are among those helping Hamden firefighters battle a massive five-acre brush fire at Sleeping Giant State Park.

"Brush fire at Sleeping Giant State Park confirmed by Hamden Chief David Berardesca. Uncertain of how large or where the fire is currently," New Haven Register breaking news reporter Charlotte Adinolfi tweeted.

Subsequent tweets by at least one other source reported that the fire was located on the "chin" of Sleeping Giant. Mutual aid has reportedly been requested from Wallingford, Bethany, Cheshire and North Haven.

According to the DEEP, the forest fire danger in the state was "moderate" as of Friday, Oct. 25. That report also noted that no significant rain was in the forecast for the weekend.

Current conditions could present a challenge for firefighters.

Right now, winds are blowing from the southeast at 10 miles per hour, with gusts up to 22, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast for the evening says the winds will continue at around 10-15 miles per hour, and gusts could reach upwards of 30 miles per hour.
