Rt. 10 Bridge To Be Named After Original Cheshire Police Officer

The bridge will be named the Lieutenant Myron Verner Memorial Bridge.

Earlier this summer, state officials announced that a bridge on Rt. 10 in Cheshire will be named after one of the founders of the Cheshire Police Department.

According to a state press release, the Rt. 10 bridge that runs over I-691 will be named after Myron Verner, who was one of five police officers who founded the Cheshire Police Department in 1955. Verner served in the department for 38 years until 1993 and died in 2011.

The bridge will be named the Lieutenant Myron Verner Memorial Bridge. A naming ceremony will be held this fall.

“I am very pleased to have Myron Verner’s name included in a bill that designates roads and bridges to honor the memory of various persons,” State Rep. Mary Fritz, D-Cheshire, said in the press release. “His name was brought to my attention by someone who believed he should be remembered and recognized for his many years of service and as a founding officer of the town’s police department.”
