Small Brush Fire in Cheshire 'Knocked Down' Quickly

Firefighters from Cheshire and Southington worked a small brush fire Thursday afternoon on the town line.

No houses were in danger from a small brush fire on Peck Lane this afternoon in Cheshire. Both Cheshire and Southington Fire Departments responded to the fire just north of West Johnson Avenue on the town line.

The fire covered about two acres said Southington Captain Mark Saucier. Cheshire Chief Jack Casner was still on the scene when Southington crews left and couldn't be reached for comment.

Saucier said the fire burned woods and brush. "It's awfully dry. It's hard to say what started it." He said firefighters knocked down the blaze pretty quickly.

It appeared the closest fire hydrant in Cheshire was quite a distance away on West Johnson Avenue. A fire hose could be seen hooked up to the hydrant north of Peck Lane.
