Southington Police Searching for Man in String of Robberies

Officers are seeking help in finding a man involved in two bank robberies Monday and a 7-11 robbery early Tuesday morning in the Queen Street area.

A string of robberies Monday and Tuesday have police searching for a man they said used notes to steal cash from Farmington Bank, TD Bank and the 7-11 Store over the past 24 hours.

Police said the latest in the string of burglaries happened overnight at the 7-11 Store on Queen Street, or Route 10, which runs down through Cheshire.

A man, dressed in a grey hooded sweatshirt entered the store and approached the clerk. He proceeded to hand the clerk a note implying he had a weapon and reached inside his shirt, according a press release from Southington Police Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz.

"The suspect held his hand under his shirt as if he was holding a weapon. The clerk gave the suspect cash from the register and a pack of cigarettes and the suspect fled the store in a Westerly direction across Queen Street," Dobratz said.

The suspect was described as standing around six feet tall with a thin build.

On Monday, police said the banks were also robbed by a man with a similar description. Just before noon, a man in a grey hooded sweatshirt with a knit cap underneath entered the Farmington bank and handed the teller a note before leaving with money.

A similar incident then occurred five hours later at the TD Bank location on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, police said Tuesday morning.

The description of the man was exactly the same at both locations. No weapon was implied of shown in the bank robberies and no one was hurt, police said.

Officers are asking for help from the public in identifying the suspect or providing additional information regarding his potential whereabouts. Those with information are asked to contact the Southington Police Department at (860) 378-1698.
