State Police Enforcement Report: July 4 Holiday

Police were more active this Fourth of July holiday that last year, giving out more than double the number of speeding tickets issued during last year's holiday.

State police made 65 arrests for driving under the influence this past July 4 holiday weekend and issued 5,737 tickets for a variety of other violations, including 534 for violations of the state's seat belt laws. 

The holiday traffic, accident and violations count on state roads began on July 3rd starting at 12:01 a.m. and continued until midnight on July 7th.

Police reported no fatalities on state highways during the July 4 enforcement, though there were a total of 370 accidents involving 55 with injuries.

State police handed out 2,491 speeding tickets as well, which was more than double the amount given out at the same time last year. 
 
Last year's July 4 holiday enforcement stats included 323 accidents, 45 DUI arrests and 1,059 speeding tickets, state police said.
