High School Students Welcome New Resource Officer

A feature article in the online Cheshire High School Rampage newspaper introduces School Resource Officer Lorin Webber.

by Aneri Pattani, Editor-in-Chief, Rampage

The freshmen weren’t the only new faces in CHS on the first day of school.  There was also an officer in hallways.  Officer Lorin Webber, from the , is CHS’s new school resource officer.

Officer Webber is stationed at CHS from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every day through the end of the school year.  However, his presence at school is not in response to any level of danger.  In fact, it is actually a return to normalcy.

CHS used to have a resource officer.  However, this position was terminated a few years ago due to budget cuts.  Afterwards, Officer Mark Ecke visited the school. However, he was not the official school resource officer, and did not stay at school the entire day, every day.  This year, the school resource officer has been reinstated.

“It’s not that CHS is not safe, but every school should have a resource officer to turn to when there are issues to address,” says Maureen Reed, vice principal.

Officer Webber will not only be walking the hallways, he will also be seen in classrooms. According to Reed, he will talk to different health classes and serve as a positive role model for students.  Webber will also help maintain a safe and comfortable atmosphere at CHS.  For example, he recently brought a case of cyber bullying to the administration’s attention and helped sort out the matter.

So if you see Officer Webber in the hallways, don’t panic or think there is danger at CHS.  Instead, know that the school is safe and will remain that way with his help.
