Inmate who apparently committed suicide has been identified.

The state Department of Corrections has identified the inmate who apparently committed suicide on Monday.

He is identified as Philip Richardson, 55, of Middletown. The DOC reports that Richardson was seen in his cell with a piece of a bed sheet tied around his neck. The sheet was tied to the window bars in the cell, according to the report.

Richards was alone in his cell when he was discovered. Corrections and medical staff worked on the man and then transported him to Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington, where he was pronounced dead at 11:40 a.m.
