A Message From the First Selectman: "Schools Are Expected To Open On Monday"

As of Saturday, 65 percent of the power has been restored to residents.

A message from the first selectman:

Good afternoon this is First Selectman Willie Fritz with an update on Hurricane Sandy.

As of this morning the Town had 65% of power restored to residents. The day began with 22 tree and line crews working with additional crews expected as they are released from other areas not a severely impacted. By days end, we should see everything restored other than single outs and underground issues, of which there are at least two that they are aware of; Heritage Park and the Fox Hill, Christina Court, Michael Drive areas.

Town Hall continues to be available for charging, we have some food and water as well as hot coffee. If needed it will also be open again tonight for shelter.  If you need shelter please arrive prior to 8pm. Eliot School is open Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm for showers.

Schools are expected to be open on Monday.

I want to thank our residents for their patience in this. We have been through a lot in the last year but Clinton always pulls together and helps each other.

Cleanup has begun starting with the debris along the shoreline. Tree debris cleanup will begin next Thursday; remember to bring it to the curb, not the transfer station. Unlike last year we will only come through once. Shore Road residents will see a pickup late next week for damaged materials. Cedar Island residents will be notified when dumpsters will be stationed at the Town Marina for your debris.

Once again thank you for your cooperation.

Fay, can someone check if the Transfer station will have extended/extra hours in the coming week?? If most homes will be powered by the end of the weekend, we will surely have much household waste to throw out. It will be difficult to hold on to this until next Friday.

Fran - Pete Neff, Director of DPW keeps Patch informed of any changes/openings etc. at the transfer station. He'll send word out if there are extended hours and I'll post it ASAP for all to see on Patch and on the Patch Facebook page. Even those without power can get Patch due to our app.
