Cheshire Government Access Channel Undergoing Upgrades
New technology will replace badly outdated equipment currently in use.
If you notice problems with the town's Local Government Access channel, it's because the system is undergoing upgrades to the technology.
"The Town of Cheshire is upgrading our Local Government Access Programming," the town announced on its website this week. "There will be some interruptions in service for Cox Cable Channel 14 and U-verse Channel 99 during the installation stage, and the link to those channels from this website will be down temporarily. We apologize for this inconvenience as we work to enhance our communication with our residents."
The town received a state Public, Educational and Governmental Programing and Educational Technology Investment Account grant of $144,000 for the upgrade, which will replace the current equipment that is outdated.
The new equipment will provide better recording quality and include internet access to the government meetings broadcast on the community channel. It includes several cameras to be installed in the council chambers in order to get different angles at meetings.
The town was one of the last municipalities to get a grant under the program. As of July 1, funding to the state program was suspended due to budget constraints. The Cheshire funding was awarded under the state's last fiscal year budget.
