Cheshire Pool Dominates Council Budget Meeting

Roughly 100 people showed up during a budget hearing on the matter Tuesday.

The future of the Cheshire Community Pool was the focus of a budget hearing Tuesday as town officials iron out whether to include $3.2 million in funding on next year's capital expenditures list.

The funding would go toward the construction of a steel membrane over Cheshire's pool, which is a decision voted on by the town's Pool Evaluation Committee.

The New Haven Register reported that the pool funding drew roughly 100 people to the Town Council hearing in a move that the newspaper said signifies a push for a referendum on the matter.

The newspaper reported that the town has to include the pool expenditure on the capital budget in order for residents to be able to vote on the issue as part of a November referendum.

The council is expected to vote next Tuesday, Aug. 27, on what items it wants to include on the capital budget.
