Cheshire Recycling Bins: Who Gets What?

Find out whether you'll get a large- or medium-sized wheeled bin.

Saving money and protecting the environment are fine, several residents recently told the Cheshire Town Council, but what they really want to know is how big a bin they will receive through the new single-stream recycling program.

Those concerned citizens now have their answer. A free 64-gallon container will be provided to these residents:

  • households with one or two bedrooms;
  • households of one or two residents where at least one resident is over 65 on on disability
  • Condo owners

All other households will receive a free 96-gallon container, according to a statement from the town.

The new containers will be delivered to households in mid-November and the collection process is scheduled to begin by Thanksgiving, the statement noted. The exact dates of the new service will be announced in the near future.

Residents who wish to have a smaller or larger container are asked to try out the original size for two months. If enough containers of their desired size are then available, they will be able to trade in the original size.

Recycling will be collected every other week once the new containers have been delivered. The exact starting date of the program will be included in an announcement mailed to households in the coming weeks. The schedule for the weekly solid waste collection will not change.
