Here are the town and school budget numbers as approved Tuesday night by the Town Council:

  • Cheshire general operating budget: $98.7 million
  • Cheshire school budget: $62.5 million
  • Mill rate: 27.23; an increase of .38 mills

The approved budget for the town's spending plan is $1.04 million less than requested by Town Manager Michael Milone.

The school district's approved budget is about $703,000 less than requested by the Board of Education.

The town budget was approved in a 5-to-4 vote with Republican Andy Falvey joining the three Democrats on the council in voting against it. The Democrats supported Milone's original request of $99.7 million, but Falvey voted "no" because he said he didn't support any tax increase this year.

The school district's budget was approved in a 5-to-3 vote along party lines with Republican Jim Sima abstaining.
