Council to Name Pool Committee This Month

It's the topic on the minds of residents, council president says.

Cheshire Town Council President Tim Slocum often hears from residents about issues of concern, and lately one issue has dominated those comments: the collapsed bubble over the Cheshire Community Pool.

"I've been hearing a lot about it," he said this week at the start of the council's monthly meeting. So much so, he said, that he opened the meeting with the announcement that the council would at its April 23 meeting be naming members of the committee that will be charged with deciding the fate of the bubble.

"This will be a public enterprise that will be held in public," Slocum said, "and once the ball gets rolling you will be able to get your views heard."

The bubble for the second time in two years came down during heavy snow in February and once again prompted talk that it should be replaced by a permanent structure. Many residents are advocating for a permanent structure that would allow the pool to be open year round. After the collapse it remained closed.

The committee will come up with a decision by June, Slocum said, and should bonding be needed for whatever resolution is decided, it will be in time to get on the November ballot.

"We will have a firm answer by the end of June in time for the November election cycle," Slocum said.
