Hamden School To Remain Closed Tuesday

Conditions are still too poor for schools to open, so students will have another day off Tuesday.

Hamden Schools -- both public and private -- will remain closed Tuesday as road conditions remain too poor to allow for buses to safely travel town roads.

The decision gives students their third day off -- schools were closed Friday in anticipation of the storm that dumped 40" of snow on the town, the most recorded in the state, and remained closed today.

The cleanup from the storm continued today, and while extra crews from out of state were brought in, progress was slow because of the need to use front loaders to clear the snow rather than just snowplows.

Tonight the state is expected to free up 65 crews as work on interstate highways wraps us, and Hamden, and the hardest hit municipality, is expected to get a good share of those resources.

But resident's patience is wearing thin as many are spending their third day stuck at home, missing work and school. Many are worried about elderly family members, and for some, critical medical appointments are a concern.

One woman was concerned about getting her sick child to the hospital for a blood transfusion, and another person had to get her father to a dyalisis appointment. Both were directed to call the town's Emergency Center.

Anyone in need of emergency help like that can call 203-230-4000 for help.
