A proposal by Stop & Shop to build a 10-pump gas station on West Main Street will be open for public comments Tuesday as the Plannning and Zoning Commission reviews the application.
The proposed station would be built at the location of at 490 West Main St. near Willow Street.
Traffic to the site would increase by about 200 cars on weekdays, according to the minutes of the Jan. 23 commission meeting. West Main Street, one of the town's busiest is also state highways 68 and 70.
Commissioner Lelah Campo commented, according to the minues, that the projected traffic increase is four times the existing flow for weekdays and double the amount for weekends.
The proposed station would be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 or 11 p.m., according to the applicant.
Several commission members noted the proposed station is directly next to the Farmington Canal Rails to Trails pathway which is scheduled to be expanded from West Main Street to Jarvis Street.
