Cheshire High School Locker Room under Review

The Town Council tonight looks at funding request for boys' locker room building.

As the capital budget process winds its way through a series of summer meetings, tonight’s topic focuses on the $22 million funding request by the Cheshire School District. The majority of the 20 projects under consideration are for infrastructure improvements including a request of $1.18 million for a new locker room structure at Cheshire High School.

was the topic of considerable debate and consternation in the spring when the Town Council tabled a request for more funding to renovate the boys locker room. The project was sent back to the Board of Education that voted to put the funding request in this year’s capital budget.

The district’s funding requests comprise 22 percent of the capital budget, according to budget documents. Other fiscal year 2012-13 projects to be considered tonight include:

  • Code compliance projects of $1.7 million for interior improvements and $1 million for exterior improvements.
  • Roof replacement district-wide for $1.56 million
  • Renovation requests cover 14 projects totaling $14.6 million for a variety of upgrades including a $4 million heating retrofit at the high school; $2.8 million for district-wide window replacements and $500,000 for 21st Century Classrooms district-wide.
