Pool Bubble Decision Near

It's been a month since heavy snow brought down the bubble at the Cheshire Community Pool. Take a look at what the collapsed bubble looks like now, four weeks after the accident.

The town’s insurance company has said it’s time to repair the ripped fabric bubble at the Cheshire Community Pool, but experts have said trying to repair the bubble from the inside will be impossible.

Parks and Recreation Director Robert Ceccolini recently told the Town Council that a temporary repair could be attempted. “We could get it inflated and see if it can be repaired,” he said last week.

Mary Ann Rosa of H.D. Segur insurance, the town’s claim administrator, told the council the sooner the repair is completed, the better. “It needs to be done in the next two weeks,” she said recently. “You can’t replace it if it can be repaired,” Rosa said.

Great American Insurance Group of Cincinnati, who insures the town’s buildings, wants the town to decide the next step based on the expert advice it’s receiving, said Rosa.

“If you need upfront money from the insurance company, you can request it,” Rosa said. She added that the town can continue to use the bubble as a blanket to protect the pool from winter temperatures, if that is the best use of the collapsed bubble.

The bubble collapsed just over a month ago, the first victim of this winter's heavy snow. Seven other structures in town have since been damaged by the record snow fall.
