Pool Committee Gets Funds For Consultant

After two meetings, the Cheshire Community Pool Committee says it needs some professional assistance in discerning its options as to what should be done with the popular facility.

Since that assistance cost money, the Town Council Tuesday approved allocating $15,000 to pay for Mythic Sports of Stony Point, NY.

The committee is charged with deciding what to do about the bubble over the pool that was destroyed during the February blizzard - whether to replace it or possibly build a permanent structure in its place.

The committee is considering 11 options, from "plowing the pool under to more expensive alternatives," said committee co-chairman John Purtill, "although plowing the pool under turns out to be quite expensive."

The committee has divided the options into two categories - one that involves a permanent structure and the other that would address seasonal needs, he said. "Each fulfills a distinct set of needs," he said.

They have not settled on deciding between two options as has been discussed, he said. "Everything is on the table," he said.

The committee will meet again May 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Cheshire Town Hall.
