Power Crews Roll into Cheshire; Full-tilt Restoration Begins

A convoy of trucks from South Carolina converged on Cheshire Monday evening. Commercial locations along Rt. 10 were restored first.

Warm days helped make the lack of power in Cheshire bearable this week. But when the sun started to go down, thousands of residents still without power got ready to shiver through another cold night.

With the outage stretching into its fourth day, utility crews from South Carolina began arriving Monday evening in a convoy of utility trucks. They lined up at the intersection of West Main Street and Mountain Road where crew chiefs inspected power lines at the busy crossroad.

Fire Chief Jack Casner said on Monday that 43 percent of the town's power had been restored. He said schools are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. A decision on whether to open schools on Thursday would be made by Wednesday afternoon. By then, Casner said, CL&P would be able to give the town a better assessment of the time line for power restoration.

Casner said the town will provide a debris collection of fallen limbs for residents at a date to be announced.
