State Senate Minority Leader Republican John McKinney has called on House Speaker Chris Donovan, D-Meriden, to step down from that role. The Connecticut Post is reporting that McKinney also wants Donovan to have no part in the legislature's upcoming special legislative session.
McKinney's comments come in the wake of of a Robert Braddock, the finance director for Donovan's congressional campaign. Donovan was recently endorsed by Democrats to seek the 5th Congressional District seat.
Federal authorities charge that Braddock hid questionable campaign contributions to Donovan. He fired Braddock on Thursday according to the Hartford Courant.
Donovan plans to hold a news conference today at 3:00 p.m. in Hartford.
