Solarize Cheshire! Launches Next Month

A workshop at Cheshire Town Hall will provide residents with information on how to make the switch to solar.

The town of Cheshire has been accepted into a state program that aims to educate resident to the benefits of switching to solar energy and make it a financially viable alternative.

Solarize Connecticut, the state program, will launch Solarize Cheshire!, a workshop on the program on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Council Chambers.

The Solarize Cheshire! campaign teams the town of Cheshire with three state solar electric installers.  The forum will provide information about solar technology, including no-money-down leasing and financing options.

The state Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority is overseeing the state program that is "designed to encourage the adoption of residential solar PV by deploying a coordinated education, marketing and outreach effort, combined with a tiered pricing structure that provides increased savings to homeowners as more people in the community go solar," according to its website.

The program is modeled after similar ventures in Oregon and Massachusetts. So far only a handful of municipalities have been chosen to participate. Cheshire was accepted into the program earlier this year.
