State Parks, Beaches and Campgrounds Remain Closed Monday [RELEASE]

The state will assess damage at state parks and reopen them on a case-by-case basis

All Connecticut State Parks, beaches and campgrounds will remain closed at least through today to allow crews to check for damage caused by Hurricane Irene, according to the the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

“Connecticut’s shoreline parks have suffered the most severe effects of the storm but we need to assess all of our state parks before we allow visitors to return,” said DEEP Commissioner Daniel C. Esty.

He said staff will inspect facilities and report on what needs to be done to get the parks ready to reopen. "We also face the challenge of being without power at many of our facilities," Esty added.
