Town Council Approves Raises for Municipal Employees

Town Hall workers will see pay increases over the next four years under the new contract the Town Council recently approved.

The council approved the collective bargaining agreement between the Town of Cheshire and Cheshire Town Hall employees Local 1303-374, Council 4, AFSCME. It runs retroactive from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2016. The employees had been working for almost a year without a contract and under the terms of the expired agreement.

Three council members — Tom Ruocco, David Schrumm and James Sima — voted against the contract, which passed the council by a vote of 5-3.

The workers will receive a 2.3 percent increase for each of the four years and also will be paying higher health insurance costs.

Still unresolved is the Police Union contract, which has now gone to arbitration after the council failed to approve the union's proposal.
