The State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency will soon issue a summary of recommendations for deer management after confirming there is a deer overpopulation problem at Wallingford's Tyler Mill Preserve after touring the site earlier this week.

Howard Kilpatrick, a wildlife biologist with the DEEP, told the Meriden Record-Journal that while birth control is an option for deer population control, hunting is the most effective option.

The Record-Journal reports that Wallingford Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. has said that he needs more concrete evidence that deer are to blame for the damage to the flora at Tyler Mill before allowing hunting.
