Your Take: Are You Satisfied With the Budget Passed?

Residents are likely to see an increase of just $84 on average despite a decline in state funding, but the budget also used the reserve fund to balance everything. Are you satisfied?

The Cheshire Town Council last week passed a budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year that tapped into the reserve fund in an effort to prevent a large increase in taxes, settling on a final plan that would increase them an average of $84 per taxpayer.

But some residents are concerned that political games were involved, both in using the reserve fund to balance the budget and in a vote against use of the fund.

"It's a bit disingenuous to argue that the Town should not be tapping into reserves when in past years, the same individuals have argued for exactly the opposite," Steve Carroll wrote in response to the previous Cheshire Patch story on the budget passing.

So what's your take? Are you satisfied with the way the budget process played out? Do you believe items of importance were cut? Share your opinion in the comments section below.
