On Saturday, October 27, the Cheshire Academy volleyball team defeated Chase Collegiate 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-11) at Cheshire Academy.
The CA Fighting Cats dominated the match throughout. Chase Collegiate, due to injuries and illnesses, had only six able bodies at the beginning of the match. Cheshire jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead in the first game on the strength co-captain Emma Gailey’s serving.
The lead ballooned to 17-3, and the rout was on. Coach Tom Brady took the opportunity to empty his bench, and every reserve saw playing time.
Chase mounted a late surge against CA’s second string, but fell 25-13. Game Two was a little different, as the game but outmanned Chase team struggled to stay with Cheshire.
Cheshire led by only 3 at 11-8, then went on a 9-3 run to push the lead to 20-11, and effectively end the game.
Game Three was a replay of Game One, with Cheshire Academy building large leads of 9-1 and 18-4 against the exhausted Chase team, before finishing the game at 25-11.
CA had its best serving match of the year, hitting on 96% of their serves, with 15 aces. Co-captain Emma Gailey led the way, with perfect 21 for 21 serving and four aces. Sabah Hubbard went 15 of 16 with five aces. Cheshire also pounded out 33 kills against the overmatched Chase team. Senior co-captain Dana Garcia led the attack with 10 kills, two she added two blocks. Cheshire’s next game is an away match on Saturday against Wilbraham & Monson Academy.
