Cheshire Education Foundation Hands Out $21k In Scholarships

Monday, the Cheshire Education Foundation announced the winners of more than $21,000 in scholarships to graduating Cheshire High School students. 

“Helping make these scholarships possible is one of the most important things we do as the Cheshire Education Foundation,” said Jane Leukart, the chairwoman of the foundation, according to the New Haven Register. “We are so impressed with these students and we are happy that we can help them as they begin their college careers.”

Overall, 134 students applied for the scholarships, according to the New Haven Register. The winners were (information all from a Cheshire Education Foundation press release):

  • Nicholas Jakowenko and Mevlana Hursid will receive the Mark S. Jardim Memorial Scholarship and each receive $1,500. Jakowenko is planning to attend the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Hursid is headed for the University of Connecticut.
  • Jenna Hart, Robert McNabb III, Sagar Nakrani and Tiffany Wang will receive equal shares of the $10,000 John E. DeLane Memorial Scholarship. Hart is going to Roger Williams University, McNabb to the University of Vermont, Nakrani is headed to Boston University and Wang will be at UConn.
  • Rebecca Nguyen will receive $2,000 for the Meghan Welch Memorial Artistic Scholarship as she heads to the University of Richmond.
  • Tim Covel and Sean Richard will each get $1,500 as recipients of the Greg Schena Memorial Scholarship. Covel will attend Connecticut College while Richard is going to Central Connecticut State University. Richard is also receiving the $500 Chapman School Scholarship.
  • Guadalupe Marquez is recipient of the $1,000 Lombardo Family Scholarship. She will be attending Eastern Connecticut State University.
  • Alex Woodworth is getting the $500 Daniel P. Martinook Memorial Scholarship and will be attending Lincoln Technical School.
  • The foundation’s $1,000 General Scholarship is going to Brittany Hill, who will be at Eastern Connecticut State University this fall.
