Cheshire Professor Named to National Health Care Committee

The American Academy of Physician Assistants taps Cheshire resident for national committee.

Cynthia Lord, of Cheshire, director of the physician assistant program at Quinnipiac University, has been appointed to a national committee of health care professionals who will work on ways to reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors.

Lord has been named to the committee through a project of the National Institutes of Health. She will be the American Academy of Physician Assistants representative to the Coordinating Committee of the new National Program to Reduce Cardiovascular Risk.

The program seeks to reduce risk of cardiovascular disease through a national effort to implement evidence-based, clinical practice guidelines and interventions in clinical practice settings.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States,” Lord said. “If this committee can implement risk reduction strategies for patients, clinicians and health care systems, improve patient adherence and establish performance measures for these strategies, we may actually be able to change the course of cardiovascular disease in our country.”
