Cheshire Public School Mark American Education Week

The highlight of American Education Week will be the CAPSS Superintendent/Student Awards Program on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Cheshire Public School will be marking American Education Week from Nov. 18-22 with many activities taking place in the schools.  

The highlight of American Education Week will be the CAPSS Superintendent/Student Awards Program on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Dodd Middle School Cafetorium. Twenty-one Cheshire students will receive the Superintendent’s “Certificate of Excellence” for service to the community and to others, academic performance and leadership service to the school community.  

The following is a list of activities and events taking place at each school this week:

Darcey School:

  • Kindergarten parents have been invited to visit classrooms throughout the week according to a schedule sent home by the teachers.
  • EIC parents are welcome to visit their child’s classroom anytime during that week that their class is in session.
  • Children ages 3-5 and their parents are welcome to attend the Parent Center on Friday 9:30-10:30 or 1:00-2:00.
  • Children ages birth-to-3 and their parents are welcome to attend the Birth-to-3 Parent Center on Wednesday, 10:30-11:30.

Chapman Elementary School

Parents will be invited to visit classrooms on the following days and times.
  • Grade 1 – Tuesday, Nov. 19: 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
  • Grade 2 – Thursday, Nov. 21: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m
  • Grade 3 – Wednesday, Nov. 20 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
  • Grade 4 – Tuesday, Nov. 19  8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
  • Grade 5 – Wednesday, November 20, 2013 8:30am – 10:30am
  • Grade 6 – Tuesday, Nov. 19 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Guest Readers from the community will be invited to read to students during the week.
  • One fifth and one sixth grade student will be honored at the Superintendent’s Awards celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 20.


Doolittle Elementary School:

  • Parents will be invited to visit in their children’s classroom.  Schedules with days and times will be sent home for each grade level.
  • On Tuesday, Nov. 13, the PTA will sponsor an Ice Cream Social beginning at 6 p.m. 
  • A Book Fair, sponsored by the PTA, will be running all week during school hours and will also be open during the Ice Cream Social.
  • Two students - a fourth grader and a fifth grader - will be honored at the Superintendent’s Awards celebration at Dodd Wednesday, Nov. 14.
  • ·       Student Council members, from grades 4 - 6, will serve as greeters and guides for parent visitations.
  • The “Flag of Liberty and Learning” will be flown throughout the week.

Highland Elementary School:

  • Parents and Guardians are invited to visit their children’s classrooms during American Education week, Nov. 18-22.  Teachers are offering both morning and afternoon periods which were outlined in a letter that went home with students.
  • Four Highland students will be among the honorees at the Superintendent’s Awards celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at Dodd Middle School.

Norton School:

We welcome parents to visit Norton School:

  • Grade 1 – Wednesday, Nov. 20 (10 - 11 a.m.)
  • Grade 2 – Thursday, Nov. 21 (10:15-11:15 a.m.)
  • Grade 3 – Wednesday, Nov. 20 (9 -11 a.m.)
  • Grade 4 – Monday, Nov. 18 (1:30-3 p.m.)
  • Grade 5 – Monday, Nov. 18 (9 -10 a.m.)
  • Grade 6 – Monday, Nov. 18 (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, Nov. 20 - two students will be honored at the Superintendent’s Awards celebration at Dodd
  • Staff will receive a note of appreciation and a morning coffee for their dedication to the students of Norton School
  • Norton PTA will provide a special treat for all staff to enjoy

Dodd Middle School

  • Dodd Middle School is open for parent visitations (please sign in at the main office).
  • The school’s daily notice will contain appropriate quotes regarding the importance of education.
  • The “Flag of Liberty and Learning” will be flown during the week. An announcement will also be made to the student body about the meaning of the symbols on the flag.
  • The Future Educators of America will be providing blank thank you notes to students during all lunch waves.  Students will have the opportunity to use the thank you note to send an appreciation message to someone in our educational community (teacher, bus driver, counselor, etc.). 
  • Dodd will host the annual Superintendent’s Awards celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 20,  four Dodd students will be honored along with students from the high school and elementary schools.
  • Educational quotes will be posted on the Integrated Communications System throughout the day.
  • The Dodd PTA and the Dodd FEA will each host a coffee and breakfast for Dodd staff during the week.

 

Cheshire High School

  • Cheshire High School is open for parent visitations (please sign in at the main office)
  • Seven students will be honored at the Superintendent’s Awards celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
  • The Cadet Teachers will discuss American Education Week and careers in education.
  • The CHS students will host a coffee and breakfast for the CHS staff on Friday, Nov. 22.
