Cheshire's Coach Aston In National Hall of Fame

Swim coach Ed Aston inducted on Tuesday.

Cheshire resident and sports expert Dennis Deninger is emcee for the annual National High School Coach of the Year awards tonight in Fargo, North Dakota.

He submitted the following information about veteran Cheshire High School Swim Coach Ed Aston who traveled with Dennninger to the national conference. Here is Aston's induction announcement:

Ed Aston, who spent 37 years coaching the swim teams at Cheshire High School, was inducted July 24th into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Coach Aston's girls' teams established a national record of 281 consecutive dual meet victories, going undefeated for 25 years from 1986 into 2011. 

His overall record at Cheshire High was 414 wins and only 21 losses for the girls' team with 25 state titles, and 410-47 for the boys' teams with 18 state championships.

Ed Aston is also a member of the Connecticut Coaches Hall of Fame and the Southern Connecticut State University Sports Hall of Fame. He and his wife of 41 years, Vivian, now live in Jupiter, Florida.

A retirement party for Aston was held in Cheshire in November, 2011. He was recognized, along with his fellow retirees, by the Cheshire Board of Education in June at the end of the school year.
