Cheshire Schools Considering Adding All-Day Kindergarten

A 15-member committee is looking at adding the program, which would cost the town $750,000, according to initial estimates.

Cheshire Public Schools has charged a 15-member committee with looking into the feasibility of bringing all-day kindergarten to the district.

The New Haven Register reports that the committee, which is composed of Board of Education members, teachers and parents, is looking to turn the district’s half-day kindergarten program into a full-day kindergarten program as early as the 2014-15 school year. Board of Education member Cindy Hellreich told the newspaper that initial estimates show the program would cost the town around $750,000, although that could all change.

“I don’t want people worried about that anything is being done for this upcoming school year,” Hellreich told the Register. “But at the same time we are looking at all the possible options. Everything is on the table.”
