Cheshire Schools See Increased Enrollment

The enrollment report for the new school year shows biggest increase at Cheshire HIgh School and Dodd Middle School.

With about two weeks of school marked off on the calendar, Cheshire administrators report overall enrollment in the district from kindergarten through 12th grade increased by just 33 students. Last year the district had an unprojected increase of 137 students.

While this year's district-wide enrollment increase is small, the overall numbers don't reflect the unprojected increase of several individual schools. Dodd and Cheshire High School each had an increase of more than 30 students.

Doolittle School showed the largest decrease in enrollment this year with 15 fewer students than projected. In 2011, Doolittle had an unexpected increase of 38 students which caused class sizes to reach 25 students in third grade and as many as 23 in first grade.
