Cheshire Teacher Elected to State Leadership Role

Dodd Middle School teacher to serve as vice president of teacher association.

Dodd Middle School math teacher Jeff Leake was elected vice president of the Connecticut Education Association at their annual meeting on Saturday.

Leake had previously served as treasurer for the  association, which represents 43,000 teachers in Connecticut.

"My bedrock commitment is to quality public education. Respect for teachers and the teaching profession is integral to successful schools." Leake said in a statement. "I look forward to playing a creative and constructive role in school improvement. Public education is another name for opportunity. A great education system and a strong economy are inextricably intertwined," he said.

At the weekend meeting Sheila Cohen of Orange was elected president. Leake and Cohen will begin their duties on August 1.

The union's election comes as state politicians struggle to pass education reform legislation before the end of the session on Wednesday.
