Cheshire's Schools To Be Cleaned More The Next Two Years

For the next two upcoming school years, the town's schools will be cleaned five times a week instead of three times a week, which will cost the town about $50,000 more annually.

Cheshire's schools should be cleaner next year, thanks to a move by the Cheshire Board of Education.

This month, the Cheshire Board of Education hired Performance Environmental Services of New Haven to clean the town's schools five times a week for the next two school years, according to the New Haven Register. For the past few years, the town's schools were only being cleaned three times a week as a cost-cutting measure, according to the Register.

Performance Environmental Services will be paid $666,785 for the 2013-14 school year and $684,788 2014-15 school year, which is roughly $50,000 more than what the town was paying Advantage Maintenance of Woodbridge to clean the schools three times a week, according to the Register.

“The schools were clean before, but we think this will be a better environment for everyone involved,” Cheshire Superintendent Florio told the New Haven Register. “The bathrooms were getting cleaned every day, but staff had to empty the classroom waste baskets and take them to a central point. That took time away from them in which they could be doing other things.”
