Pass a Cheshire School Bus, Pay a $485 Fine

Police say motorists should be aware that school buses will be traveling Route 10 starting next week.

Cheshire schools are about to start and local police are reminding drivers to be mindful of school buses.

The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 29, and motorists should expect additional traffic on Route 10, particularly in the area of Cheshire High School.

"We ask that you plan your travels with a little extra time in mind," police said in a news release.

But most importantly: if you try to pass a school bus, you could face a $485 fine if caught, police said.

Cheshire officers will be conducting speed enforcement in school zones and police ask that drivesr obey the speed limits to help keep the town's children safe.

Officers will be patrolling in marked and unmarked cars looking for drivers who fail to stop for school buses.

"Please remember to drive safely, wear your seatbelt and don’t text and drive," police said.
