School Board Approves Contracts for Top Officials, Maintenance

The board extended contracts for Cheshire superintendent and assistant superintendent for instruction for a year, as expected, and approved a new contract for maintenance workers.

After a marathon executive session meeting on Thursday evening, the Cheshire Board of Education unanimously approved one-year contract extensions for Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Florio and Asst. Superintendent for Instruction Scott Detrick.

“Wage factors were not discussed,” Board Chairman Gerald Brittingham said of the salaries for the two administrators after the closed session. They will be taken up at a future meeting, he said.

The school board also approved a new three-year contract for maintenance and custodial workers in UPSEU Local 424-Unit 19. The new contract calls for a 2 percent raise in the first year and a 2.25 percent raise in each of the following two years.

The 26 members of the union are “coming off of a zero percent increase,” explained Florio.

The only dissenting vote on the maintenance workers’ contract came from Brittingham, who declined to comment on his reasons.
