Senior Night Victory for Cheshire Swim Team

The Rams won their first home meet of the season against Hamden.

With a bright, new all-weather bubble in place Tuesday night, the Cheshire Rams Swim Team took to the lanes for a victory of 98 to 85 over Hamden's Green Dragons.

The victory came on Senior Night with the team able to swim at their home pool for the first time this season.

Flanked by their families, the seven seniors on the Ram team were announced individually prior to their 6 p.m. meet against Hamden.

Athletic Director Steve Trifone said not having a home pool all season made it difficult for the team. "It was a rough winter with all the travel," he said. Trifone said the team traveled at least one hundred miles a week for practice alone. Additional travel was required for each out of town meet.

The pool, which opened Monday, had been closed since October while the Town Council worked to get a replacement all-weather bubble in place. The old bubble collapsed during a heavy snowstorm in January, 2011.

"It's great to be back home," Trifone said. "They're swimming fairly well. It will be a competitve meet."
