Tales of a Fourth Grade Cheshire Student

Back to school; how a HIghland Elementary student prepares.

As the start of school neared, ten-year-old Joey McMillian went shopping with his mom, Nadine, to get all his school supplies on his list. By Friday, his backpack was ready to be filled with notebooks, binders and other learning tools.

Joey's list of books he read this summer is updated and ready to hand in to his new fifth grade teacher, Michelle Kumm at Highland Elementary School. The three books he read were about crocdiles and alligators, Joey said.

Knowing he was facing the last weekend before school starts, Joey was just as happy to talk about basketball as he was the upcoming school year.

"Highland school is great. Every year he has wonderful and caring teachers," said Nadine McMillian

Joey said he wasn't concerned about finding his new classroom, he was able to easily explain which hall he would take to arrive at his desk bright and early at 8:50 a.m.
