Cheshire Loses To Branford In American Legion Southern Division Final

A win would have meant Cheshire would have played for the state championship.

Stamford - Wednesday, despite falling behind by four runs early, Branford's American Legion baseball team stormed back to defeat Cheshire, 7-6, to capture the American Legion Southern Division title.

The victory means that Branford (27-1) will play Southington starting Friday in a best-of-three series for in the American Legion State Final at Cubeta Stadium in Stamford. The New Haven Register reports that Branford was down 4-0 against Cheshire after four innings because of some sloppy play, but managed to put together a five-run rally in the seventh inning to take control of the game.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, Cheshire coach Bob Robertson told the newspaper that he was proud of his players.
