Famous Cheshire Athlete Cheers Family

With two sons on the Cheshire High School Hockey Team, the Romano family couldn't miss a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

The Romano brothers, Scott and Mark, have both played goalie for the Cheshire High School Hockey team, so a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto is tradition for the family when they're in the city.

The Romanos had traveled to Toronto to take Scott, a junior goalie for the CHS team, to the Jon Elkins Goalie Camp. Their older son, Mark, played for the Rams from 1999 to 2002.

A display at the Hall of Fame delighted the family; they may have been about 400 miles from home, but a piece of Cheshire was there to greet them.

"... we found a display honoring Brian Leetch. And right in the middle of that display was a vintage Cheshire High School hockey jersey," wrote Mitzi Romano.

The description of the display reads, "Cheshire High School Rams jersey worn by budding defenceman* Brian Leetch during one of his two seasons with the club from 1982-1984. During his sophomore season in 1983-84, Leetch recorded a 50 goal, 100 point season in leading the Rams to a Connecticut State championship, while being named an All-Star Defenceman."

The Romanos report that 10 years ago when they visited Toronto, Leetch hadn't yet been inducted into the Hall of Fame, so there was no Cheshire connection.

"I hope others will enjoy seeing the CHS jersey so prominently displayed as much as we did!" Mitzi Romano wrote.

The Cheshire High School Rams won the Division II state title title in March, their second state championship in three years.

*Defenceman is the English spelling of defenseman.
