Half Marathon Coming to Cheshire This Weekend; Detours Planned

Several roads will be closed and the CT Transit Bus Routes adjusted as runners take to Cheshire Streets on Sunday for a half marathon, 5K and Kids Fun Run sponsored by Naugatuck Savings Bank.

Runners are set to take to Cheshire Streets Sunday with as many as 3,000 expected as part of the Cheshire Half Marathon.

The half marathon, set to take off from Cheshire High School on Sunday, April 28, as part of the Healthy & Active Living Festival hosted by Naugatuck Savings Bank, involves a half marathon, 5K run and Kids Fun Run.

According to details provided on the Naugatuck Savings Bank sponsored site, the run includes a trek along a scenic flat course that runs through Cheshire and parts of Hamden with significant stretches along the Farmington Canal Trail.

The flat 5k course is run entirely in Cheshire. The event is organized by JB Sports, LLC – coordinators of some of your favorite running events including the New Haven, Fairfield and Branford Road Races.

But motorists and travelers should beware of delays during the run. With so many participants expected, the Cheshire Police Department and CT Transit have reported the following changes:

On Sunday, April 28, between approximately 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., during the Cheshire Half Marathon, 5k & Kids Fun Run there will be minor detours for the CTTRANSIT J-route bus.

The Cheshire Half Marathon and 5K will start on Elmwood Drive at 9:30am and will finish on the High School Track at about 12:45 p.m. During the road race, South Main Street will be temporarily closed from Higgins Road to Wallingford Road at Cheshire Center.

The closest bus stop for outbound buses prior to making this detour will be at Jinny Hill Road a block from the Route 42 intersection. Inbound J buses closest bus stop will be at Cheshire Center near Route 68.
