Rams Football Routs Foran

Cheshire gets back to winning ways in SCC matchup; Pascale scored three TDs.

The Cheshire football team has had its share of disappointments this season losing to three teams ranked in the state's Top 10, including No. 1 Xavier-Middletown.

The Rams took out some of that frustration against Foran-Milford with a 41-6 victory in a Southern Connecticut Conference interdivision game Friday at East Haven High School.

Cheshire (4-3) dominated from the start scoring on its first play from scrimmage after taking over at the Foran 4 following a bad snap on a punt attempt. Quarterback Michael Ecke hooked up with running back Sam Pascale for a 4-yard touchdown pass with 7:13 to go the first quarter. Kyle Pulek's point after made it 7-0.

It was more of the same throughout the first half as the Rams rolled up 224 yards of total offense, 147 through the air, to 14 yards for Foran (1-5) en route to a 34-0 lead.

"I'm pleased. We came out here, we had a goal, we wanted to move the ball offensively and play solid defense and I think we did that," Cheshire head coach Mark Ecke said. "Special teams were good. It was a good performance overall."

Michael Ecke finished 15 of 22 passing for 199 yards with three touchdown passes. He also ran 30 yards for another score. Pascale carried seven times for 50 yards rushing and scored three TDs, two on the ground from 24 and 4 yards, and one on the reception from the 4.

Cheshire used the wideout screen pass continually through the game with great success. One came on a 53-yard completion to wide receiver Rahmi Roundtree that brought the ball from the Cheshire 36 to the Foran 11 and set up a 1-yard TD reception by Kevin Dietrich from Michael Ecke as time expired in the first half.

"It's something we've been working on in practice and we got to a point where I felt comfortable calling it, and the kids executed very well," Mark Ecke said.

Cheshire scored on five of its six possessions in the first half. The Rams added their final score on a 34-yard pass from Michael Ecke to Roundtree with 9:16 left in the third quarter.

The Rams' first team offense came out of the game after that score and didn't return.

Foran's second team offense got the ball moving in the fourth quarter, when the Lions scored their only TD. Zach White completed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Connor Cadrin (four catches, 35 yards) with 7:02 left in the game.

White was 9-for-12 for 96 yards, all in the second half, including a 34-yard completion to William Vitelli on the scoring drive.

Nicholas Weissauer started at quarterback for Foran and kept the ball mostly on the ground in the first half. Running back Dave Yerxa led the Lions with 53 yards on nine carries.

Cheshire plays Notre Dame-West Haven (5-2) at Veteran's Stadium Friday.

(Notre Dame) is a physical football team," Mark Ecke said. "They've got great speed. They're kind of the total package."

Foran travels to North Haven (6-1) on Friday.
