Nearly 75 Entries in Cheshire's Memorial Day Parade

The 44th Annual Memorial Day Parade begins Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with Parade Marshals Ernie DiPietro and John White.

There will be sights and sounds for everyone Sunday during the Memorial Day Parade.

Entries include the traditional color guards from the police department and the VFW Post along with the the Cheshire High School Ram Band and Dodd Middle School Band and the fire department's marching men's and women's contingent.

Entries and floats from the Relay for Life, Cheshire Youth Theater, Cheshire Dog Park, Cheshire Grange, YMCA, Lights of Hope, 4-H Club, Bennett Family Musicians and Paws Pet Resort will roll south from Highland School, past the Cheshire Green before finishing at Cheshire High School.

The Windsor and Yalesville Fife and Drum and the Corps and the Colonel John Chester Drum Corps will bring Colonial music to the thousands of parade-goers who will stake out their spots early on Sunday for the best view.

About two dozen community organizations will be represented in the parade , including youth entries from Cheshire Youth Baseball/Softball and the girl and boy scouts.

The Parks and Recreation Department said the parade will last until about 3 p.m. with the last event a short ceremony in front of the high school.

Route 10 will be closed along the parade route from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Traffic will be detoured.

The rain date is June 5 at the same time. To check the status of the parade, call the parks hotline at 203-250-2470 after 10 a.m. on Sunday.
