What I love about me: Growing up in an Image-Obsessed World. The Power of Positive Body Image and its role for today's young women.

“If I were skinny, my life would be perfect, I would be happier, people would love me, accept me."

More and more of our teens are turning to eating disorders and other addictions as coping mechanisms to survive in today’s society.

On Sunday, October 6, 2013, from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Park and Rec Center in Cheshire on South Main Street (Route 10), I am hosting an open informational yet entertaining program addressing these issues.

The program addresses the related issues of eating disorders and teen depression, as well as the power that positive body image plays in our lives. You will hear from a variety of women about what they’ve been through, where they are at now, and how they cope with these challenges. A group of younger girls will also give their perspective on the pressures they’ve seen and felt. There will also be a panel of therapists available to answer questions you might have.  Through this program, we will share how we can love and accept ourselves for who we are and be successful, happy individuals.

The program includes a fashion show that focuses on the individual not the clothes, a teen discussion about the effects they see from media advertising, live music, and a few surprises along the way.
