Cheshire Man Sentenced to Ten Years in 2012 Sexual Assault

Mark Altieri was convicted of forcing a woman into a room and locking her inside before sexually assaulting a second with a knife in 2012.

A Cheshire man is facing 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from the forcible rape of another local resident at knifepoint in 2012.

Court officials confirmed that Mark Altieri, 43, formerly of 55 Horton Ave. in Cheshire, entered a guilty plea last Friday to charges of first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint before a judge at New Haven Superior Court.

Altieri was sentenced to ten years in prison, execution suspended after seven years served, and will be required to serve a ten-year probation upon his release, according to court records.

Under state law, he will also have to file as a registered sex offender upon release.

According to an affidavit from the incident, Altieri had entered a Cheshire home where two women lived in 2012 and forced one into a room where she was locked inside while he proceeded to sexually assault the second in the next room.

Altieri used a knife during the assault and one of the women, whose names have not been released, suffered a cut on her hand during the incident.

Police responding to the complaint found him hiding in a basement of a Seymour home belonging to Joan Detullio later in the day. Detullio was also taken into custody on a charge of aiding and abetting a criminal but has been granted rehabilitated acceleration in her case.

Public Defender Joseph Lopez, who represented Altieri in the case, could not be reached for comment on Wednesday afternoon.
